Julie Gichuru is an entrepreneur and African media personality. She describes herself as an Afro-optimist, wife, mother, child of God, TV host, writer, producer and philanthropist. Rightly so, her career in the media spans over 15 years and has seen her work across the fields of broadcast, print and digital media.
Julie is the Founder and Chief Executive Officer of Arimus Media Limited (www.arimusmedia.co.ke.), a production house focused on quality AFRICAN content. She also runs and manages other business enterprises and organizations in addition to sitting on various boards.
In the initial stages of her media career, Julie ran a lifestyle magazine called Quest. Moving on to broadcast, she worked as a news presenter and hosted a hard hitting radio talk show at Capital FM before transiting to television where she created and hosted a record number of highly successful news and current affairs shows across a number of media houses. She worked with a team at Citizen TV to conceptualize and host the groundbreaking news show Sunday Live with Julie Gichuru. This pioneer news and current affairs show launched in 2008 at Citizen TV, redefining the style and delivery of news in Kenya. In 2009 Julie conceptualized and hosted Fist to Five for Change, which facilitated reconciliation and healing for victims and perpetrators of post-election violence in Kenya. She has also pioneered an impressive number of television shows, from the first Kenyan investigative TV series, The Inside Story, to various current affairs shows including the celebrated post-election peace specials Voices of Reason.
After stepping away from the limelight of everyday mainstream media, Julie has been a success story of media personalities who have transitioned into running private productions. She conceptualized and hosts the Africa Leadership Dialogues, a syndicated current affairs program with a focus on African development and growth. The Great Debaters Contest is also among her productions that offers a televised platform to students for discussion and exchange of ideas on African challenges and opportunities.
Julie’s work is not without recognition both locally and internationally. She is the first African woman to receive the Martin Luther King Salute to Greatness for advocacy of non-violence following the 2007 election in Kenya. She was awarded the Order of the Golden Warrior for her contribution towards nation building by President Mwai Kibaki in 2011. Recently Julie was recognized in the WIE list of 60 Most Influential African Women in the world.
Jacqueline Motsepe twenty years’ experience in the film and television industry. Currently employed at the KwaZulu-Natal Film Commission as its Chief Operations Officer. Ms Motsepe is responsible for programmes in skills development, funding, marketing as well as facilities and locations. The key outputs are to grow the province of KwaZulu-Natal in the area of film and promote and market the province of KwaZulu-Natal as a choice film destination. The KwaZulu-Natal Film Commission is a provincial body responsible for the growth and development of the film industry.
Mr. Edward Sigei is the Executive Director, Kenya Copyright Board (KECOBO). He had been at the organization as the Chief Legal Counsel where he dealt with issues of prosecution, Litigation, public education, Copyright Law Reform and enforcement for over ten years.
He has vast experience in area of intellectual Property especially in the field of Copyright. He has trained extensively on Copyright in Kenya and the East Africa region as well as representing the country in International meetings and conferences. He holds a Master of Laws (LLM) degree and is an Advocate of the High Court of Kenya.
She has over 7 years of experience in the entrepreneurship and tech ecosystem in East Africa and vastly knowledgeable of the entrepreneurship and innovation scene in Africa. She led in the development and execution of mLab East Africa ( iHub’s incubation center) acceleration programmes for East African entrepreneurs, iHub Fellows, and mLab incubated startups. She has coached and mentored over 1000 entrepreneurs in business model and acumen, investor relations and pitching across the continent. For over 5 years, Sheilah organised the largest East African Startups pitching contest, popularly known as Pivot East.
Emily Wanja is a content and Impact producer based in Nairobi Kenya. With a career that spans from theatre acting, to TV drama and movies. She markets and creates content based on trends, needs and information for mass consumption at OwNA movie ltd.
Shadrack is a specialist in visual communication through Animated and Illustrated Media Certified by Toonboom animation Inc. He has worked with several local advertising agencies and business owners both locally and globally as a freelance consultant on campaigns to launch products and introduce their brands to consumers. Local examples are the Oilybia Accel Lubricants campaign and Safaricom’s ready business advert.
He is passionate for the arts and animation which moved him to share his knowledge with others.

Carole Croella is Senior Counsellor – Copyright division, Culture & Creative Industries Sector of the World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO) headquartered in Geneva-Switzerland. She has been at WIPO since 2001 and works on the development and implementation of international legal standards in copyright and related rights.
Vera Castanheira currently works as international legal advisor & IP specialist, and as a consultant for WIPO, providing international legal research and analysis on projects related with collective management and with competition law applied to copyright. She also acts as tutor of the WIPO Academy and coach in IP certification courses for teachers.
David runs operations in Kenya and has over 35 years’ experience working in development communications. He was given an OBE in 2008 for his work supporting education and development in Africa through media.
Max Rumney is a solicitor specialising in television and film law. He trained at Frere Cholmeley Bischoff in London and qualified into the Media/IP department. From there in 2000 he went to Carlton TV Productions as a senior business affairs executive. In January 2004, he founded the business affairs function at Anglo-US producer September Films which was acquired by DCD Media plc.
Alex Gakuru is a Technology Rights Defender. The Executive Director, Content Development & Intellectual Property (CODE-IP) Trust – a Kenyan nonprofit focused on technology justice policy, law and regulation. On conviction that whereas, “content is king, really, context rules,” asserting local cultural expression through local content development, protection and its promoting on various media.
Ike was called to the Nigerian Bar (1982) and to the Bar of England and Wales (1996) by the Honourable Society of Lincoln’s Inn. He is a Fellow (1994) of the Chartered Institute of Arbitrators in London and also a Chartered Arbitrator (2007). He has been an accredited mediator of the Academy of Experts in Gray’s Inn since 1998 and is also a CEDR Mediator in Investor – State Disputes.

Mwaniki Mageria is a TV personality making men cook on Get In The Kitchen but has doubled in radio and marketing. He is the Founding Sec Gen of Riverwood Filmmakers Association with experience as a producer, director, actor and film distributor for over 6 years.
He has served as a Board Commissioner for the Kenya Film Commission and been a Judge at the African Magic Viewers’ Choice Awards in Lagos Nigeria. His experience in Aggregation and Distribution of films has had him invited to Discop, ZIFF, Danish and Swedish market forums to represent RiverWood – the Kenyan Film Industry.
He’s also the Chairman of the International Film Convention (IFC) Kenya which brought together key Film & TV players in East Africa to forge a common step-up strategy.
Jonathan Scott was born in London in 1949 and has lived in Kenya since 1977. He has a Bsc Hons degree in Zoology from the Queen’s University of Belfast, Northern Ireland. In 1987 he was the Overall Winner in the Wildlife Photographer of the Year Competition – the most prestigious event of its kind. Jonathan has Presented numerous wildlife television programs for the BBC and Animal Planet.
Angela Scott was born in Alexandria, Egypt in 1953 and spent her childhood in Dar es Salaam in Tanzania. Jonathan and Angela married in the Masai Mara Game Reserve in 1992 and have proved to be a prolific partnership, collecting material together for their books and traveling around the world as wildlife and travel photographers. In 2002 Angela was the Overall Winner of the Wildlife Photographer of the Year Award. Her winning image was selected from more than 18,000 images submitted from 60 countries. This made Jonathan and Angela the only couple ever to have won this competition as individuals. Jonathan and Angela live in Nairobi, Kenya and have a permanent base at Governor’s Camp in the Masai Mara Game Reserve. Their award winning images have appeared in books and magazines around the world, including National Geographic, Geo, Geographical, BBC Wildlife, Digital Photography, Outdoor Photographer, Outdoor Photography, Traveller, Wanderlust, EOS Magazine, Practical Photographer, Swara, Focus, Terre Savage.

A Naval architect with over 15+ years of experience, he is the Director at Aries Vismayas Max, Vice President of BizTV Network and Aries Telecasting Pvt Ltd, the multiplex theatre complex, production, and television divisions of Aries Group of Companies respectively, a multinational conglomerate of 46 companies in 15 countries.
Trained at the SVA New York and ENSAD Paris, Guilhem Pratz and has worked 10 years as a graphic designer and freelance director, and has managed for 15 years now an agency specialized in brand communication for TV in Paris.
George Gachara is the managing partner at HEVA Fund, a finance and business support facility for creative industries in East Africa. As Managing Partner, George works to define strategy, identify investors and funding partners and provide assistance to creative and cultural sector ventures to achieve their growth plans. Njoki’s career in TV and Film is the result of a hobby gone serious. Writing as a hobby, Njoki became the Kenya National winner in MNET New Directions Script Writing Competition in 1999. Not certain if this was a fluke or indicator of untapped talent, Njoki took a one year sabbatical from her busy Management Consultancy career with Pricewaterhouse and joined New York Film Academy, at Universal Studios, Hollywood. She graduated in Diploma in Film Making.
Claire LEPROUST, a graduate of Sciences Po in business law, started her career in cable TV and thematic TV channels. In 1993 she became in charge of programs and interactive television at CanalSat, then in 2000 she headed the SFR Vizzavi content platform.
In 2003 she founded TV for Mobile before becoming Associate Director at Eyeka. She was then hired by Hervé Chabalier, a renowned producer, to be Director for Digital Developments after which she became an associate at Chabalier Associated Press Agency (CAPA Group) from 2008 to 2013. She is an experienced producer in transmedia working on Braquo, a TV series that was aimed at improving programming for Arte as well as Canal+. She has also has experience with on-demand channels on YouTube.
In 2014 she founded FABLAB CHANNEL, a production company specializing in web series (fiction and documentaries) and editing on-demand YouTube channels and Orange channel such as Rendez Vous a Paris which is dedicated to comedy web series (185 000 subscribers on YouTube) and working with TV5 Monde, Les Haut Parleurs, an ambitious project that brings together young people from all over the world to tell stories in a free and authentic tone online.
Monicah Ndungu is a communication professional and scholar with over 13 years’ experience in the media industry, both in the private and public sector across East Africa. She is the current General Manager of Kwesé Free Sports in Kenya, having previously worked as Television Programs Manager at the Kenyan Public Broadcaster (Kenya Broadcasting Corporation), Programming Manager at The Uganda Broadcasting Corporation (UBC) and Presentation Editor at Kenya Television Network (KTN).
Ken Oloo is an executive producer at Zindua Ltd. His team has worked on shows that have aired on BET and MNET’s Maisha Magic East. Ken has worked in the USA, South Africa, Jordan, Syria, Uganda, Somalia and Uganda.
Ken is also the founder of the Filamujuani Foundation.
